The Downtown Youth Clinic (DYC) was founded in 1997 by Michael Darata, NP, in response to the massive influx of youth becoming infected with HIV in the Bay Area. Since then, the clinic has expanded its services to meet the broad sexual health needs of both HIV-negative and HIV-positive of youth under the age of 29 in the East Bay.
We provide primary care for youth living with HIV. In addition to these services, we offer routine screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, as well as ongoing prescriptions for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) , and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV-negative youth.
The DYC is staffed by a youth social worker, peer advocate, an outreach and retention coordinator.
Our team reflects the diverse community we serve. Together, we work to meet the social, mental, and health needs of our patients. We offer peer and benefits counseling, as well as social work support upon request.
